What if all you really want to do is just use some word processing, spreadsheets, surf or email? Then, all you need is the fit-PC.
The fit-PC offers two USB 2.0 ports, dual fast Ethernet (10/100) ports, a VGA connector, and an RJ-11 jack. Two stereo line-out and line-in audio jacks are also built in. The CPU used is an AMD Geode LX800. The entire system, including a 40GB hard drive and 256MB of main memory, uses only 3-5W of total power. Its extremely low power usage means you can keep the system running all the time. The built-in graphics can drive displays up to 1920x1440.
The fit-PC is marketed as a maintenance-free, set-it-and-forget-it type of computer. It is priced at $285, which includes the hard drive and pre-loaded Linux OS. A Windows XP version costs $335.
